Greenworks Philadelphia sets out an ambitious agenda of “green” initiatives for our city and region that includes new trails along the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, new parks, accessible riverfronts, thousands of new trees, green roofs, green streets and transit. These new green infrastructure projects will help improve air quality, provide recreational space, reduce heat-related deaths and increase property values.

But how do we pay for it?

Philadelphia’s ambitious agenda to become the “Greenest City in America” will require innovative and reliable funding methods. Having surveyed the nation, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Economy League of Greater Philadelphia present several models for creatively funding green infrastructure from places as far away as St. Louis, Missouri and as close as our own back yard.

Come hear about how these models can be implemented and expanded right here in Philadelphia!

Featuring:

Moderator: Patrick Starr, Senior Vice President, Pennsylvania Environmental Council
Peter Sortino, President, Danforth Foundation, St. Louis
Howard Neukrug, PE, Director, Office of Watersheds, Philadelphia Water Department
Steve Wray, Executive Director, Economy League of Greater Philadelphia

Center for Environmental Policy

The goals of the Center for Environmental Policy (CEP) at The Academy of Natural Sciences are to evaluate key issues of environmental policy, facilitate dialogues and decision-making on environmental topics, and inform the public from both an academic as well as practical perspective.  The CEP will answer the need for a non-partisan, science-based organization that is capable of accessing and guiding a myriad of public and private stakeholders.

For more information on current CEP projects and initiatives, please see www.ansp.org/environmental/index.php
